When people think of training, they often picture classrooms, trainers, and content. But at the Veolia Life Science Centre of Excellence (VLCE), there’s a whole layer of planning and coordination that happens before a single presentation begins. That’s where I come in.
As VLCE Administrator, my role is to make sure every piece of the puzzle fits together - from the moment someone enrols to the moment they leave the Centre feeling confident and capable. It’s not always visible, but it’s critical to ensuring the Centre delivers on its promise of high-quality, industry-leading training.
Turning Complexity into SimplicityEvery training session involves dozens of moving parts. On any given day, I could be confirming flights, booking accommodation, coordinating airport transfers, managing dietary requirements, confirming attendance lists, or preparing registration packs.
I also manage bookings for both internal teams and external clients, often working months in advance to balance training needs with Centre availability. No two days are the same and that’s part of what makes the job exciting. I’m in the background ensuring everything’s ready so our trainers and attendees can focus on the experience.
The Learner Journey, Start to Finish
We pride ourselves on delivering a seamless experience for everyone who comes through the VLCE. That starts long before their first day of training.
I coordinate everything from pre-course preparation to on-the-ground logistics. Working closely with local suppliers, I ensure daily transfers are arranged and any special requirements - like accessibility or dietary preferences - are taken care of. It’s all about removing friction so trainees can arrive focused and ready to learn.
What many don’t see is the level of planning involved in making that journey feel smooth and simple. It takes a lot of coordination to achieve that kind of ease.
A Proud Moment: Seeing It All Come Together
One of the moments I’m most proud of was the official launch of the Veolia Life Science Centre of Excellence. We hosted over 80 attendees and showcased the Centre’s full capabilities. That event was the result of careful planning, weeks of coordination and collaboration with teams across Veolia Water Technologies - and it went off without a hitch.
Since then, we’ve supported six full training classes in 2024 alone, and I’ve had the privilege of helping each group get the most out of their time here. Watching them return later in the year for Level 2, more confident and capable than before, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
Listening, Improving, and Staying Agile
Feedback is a key part of how we evolve. After every session, we gather anonymous responses from trainees to understand what worked well and where we can improve. Sometimes the feedback highlights logistical adjustments - like improving travel coordination or streamlining arrival processes - while other times it points to smaller, more personal touches that can make a big difference to someone’s overall experience, such as clearer communications or more tailored support.
This continuous feedback loop isn’t just a formality - it’s an essential tool that allows us to stay responsive, agile and trainee-focused. By listening closely and acting on what we learn, we’re able to refine our approach and ensure that each session is smoother, more efficient and more impactful than the one before.
Why Coordination Matters
At first glance, administration might seem like a supporting role - but in practice, it directly impacts the quality of learning. When training runs like clockwork, attendees feel looked after and respected. That leads to better engagement, stronger focus and more meaningful outcomes.
And ultimately, that translates into better results for our customers. When technicians are trained in an environment that’s well-structured and stress-free, they absorb more, perform better and deliver higher levels of service on-site.
The Future
The Veolia Life Science Centre of Excellence is more than a training centre - it’s a symbol of Veolia’s commitment to excellence. It’s exciting to see it growing in both scale and reputation. Every month we welcome new faces, support evolving programmes and take on new challenges. I’m particularly excited about welcoming more international teams and continuing to streamline the trainee experience across languages and regions.
My goal is simple: to ensure every person who walks into the Centre feels supported, prepared and valued. Because when everything behind the scenes works as it should, great training becomes inevitable.
